SKYE MILKY WAY
From the other side of the world, from a corner of New Zealand where the sky reigns supreme, Skye Milky Way grew up between the ocean and the stars. On the Crazy Horse Paris stage, she carries that sense of immensity within her. Her energy, spontaneity, and optimism draw you into a galaxy ruled by femininity.
“I come from a place where the sky is extraordinarily beautiful.”
“Milky Way refers to my pale blonde hair, which evokes the Milky Way.”
“On stage, I want to convey my vision of women: unapologetically sexy, always sophisticated, strong, independent, comfortable in their own skin, and self-confident.”
What is the story behind your stage name?
Skye, because I come from a place where the sky is extraordinarily beautiful. And Milky Way refers to my pale blonde hair, which evokes the Milky Way. I have also been told that I am “a little out of this world.” I could not imagine a more beautiful compliment.
What is your story with dance?
I come from a small town in the north of New Zealand. I started with gymnastics when I was five, which helped me enormously when I began dancing at fourteen through street-dance battles. I was part of a crew, and we spent all our time training and entering competitions. I also began contemporary dance around the same time.
At eighteen, I decided to see how far this passion could take me. I moved to London alone to try my luck. It was a leap into the unknown and the craziest thing I had ever done. And the best! While I was there, I worked with Mya Harrison, Tory Lanez, Burna Boy, Gunna, Young T and Bugsey…I immersed myself in every new dance style I was offered: voguing, waacking, jazz, ballet, and dancing in heels. I then discovered cabaret in Cannes, France, and fell in love with that world. I applied to Crazy Horse Paris with a contemporary dance showreel, without really believing anything would come of it, and yet here I am, with my unconventional background!
What kind of woman are you when you dance on the Crazy Horse Paris stage?
I am unstoppable, confident, and completely in my element. On stage, I want to convey my vision of women: unapologetically sexy, always sophisticated, strong, independent, comfortable in their own skin, and self-confident.
What did you discover about yourself when you became a Crazy Horse Paris dancer?
I learned never to give up and always to do my best. Some things were difficult at first, but I proved to myself that I could achieve extremely ambitious goals. It is a matter of discipline, resilience, and self-belief.
What do you want to convey to the audience when you dance on the Crazy Horse Paris stage?
I would like the audience to marvel at the natural beauty of the female body. At Crazy Horse Paris, the dancers’ curves, lines, and movements are enhanced with extraordinary elegance. But beyond that beauty, I would also like to convey a message that is very close to my heart: we are beautiful just as we are. Every woman deserves to be celebrated for her individuality and authenticity, and Crazy Horse Paris is a magnificent expression of that.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality of a Crazy Horse Paris dancer?
The ability to captivate, seduce, and hold an audience spellbound without ever forcing it. Whatever she is doing and wherever she is on stage, the dancer has a magnetic presence and radiates powerful energy.
In your opinion, what has created the magic of Crazy Horse Paris for the past seventy-five years?
Crazy Horse Paris is iconic, precise, and magnetic. It is a magnificent blend of art, elegance, and sensuality. It is a place where technique, confidence, and dance come together to create something truly unforgettable. I also love the fact that every dancer can reveal her own personality, talents, and distinctive qualities. Finally, the lighting design is an artistic and technical achievement that has never been equaled on any stage.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not dancing on the Crazy Horse Paris stage?
I love spending time in nature and by the ocean. That is how I recharge and stay grounded, which I believe is very important in a profession like mine.
Which female icons inspire you?
Marilyn Monroe moves me deeply because of her authenticity. She always remained true to herself, right to the end, without ever conforming to what others expected of her. People told her she was too curvy, but she did not care. She changed nothing and captivated crowds through her presence alone, without artifice. I deeply admire that ability to embrace who you are fully and to feel that you have nothing to prove.
Which act in The Dubai Edition amazes you the most?
I love Vestal’s Desire. To me, it is the act that best embodies the quiet power of Crazy Horse Paris. The dancers remain almost completely still, yet the undulating movement of their hips is so hypnotic that you cannot look away.
